How are social issues different from economic issues?
Q. I have to answer this for class. However, I'm not sure what the right answer is. What I've come up with so far is that economic issues such as men and women receiving equal pay, are affected by social issues, such as society's view that a woman's work is less important. Any ideas?

A. There are a lot of social issues which have no relation to economics at all, both at national levels of society, and at family levels. Social issues are more of the abstract type (which you can't show physically) but most of the economic issues are of the concrete type (which you can show physically). For example relegious fundamentalism. Religious fundamentalists don't quote any economic concerns. Their only point is the kind of belief in God. Simlarly at the level of a family, there could be a social issue due to economics involved, like living standards, who should work, etc. But sexual issues are not related to economics in the family. Similarly bringing up children with cultural values.

What are some political issues concerning alternative energy?

A. One major issue concerning the development and utilization of alternative energy sources is the lack of political will to support such endeavor. In the US, former president Bill Clinton did not submit the Kyoto Protocol (an international treaty which aims to reduce the collective emission of Greenhouse Gases in signatory nations) to the Republican-dominated Senate who opposed the abovesaid amendment. Environmental policies in developing nations, like the Philippines, are not adequate, as they permit multinational and transnational companies to deliberately exploit their natural resources for economic gain while disregarding local environmental policies. A. The United States presidential election of 1852 was in many ways a replay of the election of 1844. Once again, the incumbent President was a Whig who had succeeded to the presidency upon the death of his war hero predecessor; in this case, it was Millard Fillmore who followed General Zachary Taylor. The Whig party passed over the incumbent for nomination casting aside Fillmore in favor of General Winfield Scott. The Democrats nominated a "dark horse" candidate, this time Franklin Pierce. The Whigs again campaigned on the obscurity of the Democratic candidate, and once again this strategy failed.
